Indoor Tabi Shoes
The Budo Tabi Shoes supplied from Nindurance are hand made and imported from Saitama, Japan. Saitama has been known for producing traditional indigo cotton indoor Tabi shoes for budo training since the times when the Samurai ruled Japan.
Tabi (足袋) are traditional Japanese socks. Ankle-high and with a separation between the big toe and other toes, they are worn by both men and women with geta and other traditional thronged footwear. Tabi shoes are also essential with traditional clothing such as the kimono. The most common color is white or indigo, and white tabi are worn in formal situations such as at tea ceremonies. Men wear indigo blue budo tabi shoes for martial arts training.
Budo Tabi Sizes: Instructions and Conversions
Our Budo Tabi Shoes come from Japanese makers and so naturally they use a Japanese shoe size, which is actually just the length of your foot in centimeters. Here is the best method to determine your Japanese shoe size:
- Put a ruler (that is longer than your foot) perpendicular against a wall.
- Stand up straight with your back against that same wall on top the ruler.
- Take a measurement at the front-most points of your foot.
- Multiply measurements in inches by 2.54 to find your length in centimeters
- That’s your Budo Tabi shoe size!
Some shoes you already own may have the Japanese shoe size written in them and that is a good double-check. Alternatively, you can consult the approximate size conversion table below. Because budo tabi are form-fitting, correct sizing is crucial for maximum comfort.Please note that these tabi shoes are made from 100% cotton, and will shrink after washing, and recommended not to place in dryer unless you are attempting to shrink and fit.
